Att lära sig matematik innebär att man kommer i kontakt med en mängd olika matematiska begrepp. Genom att tillägna sig begreppen ges eleverna en större möjlighet att förstå matematiken som ska läras. Begreppen hjälper dom att begripa matematiken. Begreppen inom matematiken, liksom inom alla sammanhang har en stor betydelse för möjligheten att förstå och kunna samtala om det man är engagerad i.
